1 Peter Bible Study Takeaways

Y’all, I absolutely love 1 Peter. I feel like it’s a book of the Bible that isn’t really talked about a ton, but I am going to be talking about it with you guys today! The book is only 5 chapters long so I’m only doing one blog post on it. So here are some things that 1 Peter taught me. I hope this encourages you to study the book as well if you haven’t.

  • 1: The book (written by Peter) encourages us to endure suffering for Christ. “In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 1:6-7). The entire letter in 1 Peter was actually written to the persecuted christians living in 5 regions in Asia Minor. So there are many verses like verses 6 and 7 in chapter 1 throughout the entire small book. Another one that hit my heart like a brick was chapter 4 verses 12-13. “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.” How powerful to know that though we may suffer in this life for the name of Jesus, we get to spend eternity in Heaven with him in his glory. We know that one day we will be in Heaven free of suffering of any kind. While suffering may last for a while on this earth, eternity in Heaven for those who suffer for righteousness is waiting and being prepared for us. Makes me want to cry tears of joy. Like Peter wrote, don’t be surprised, but rejoice!
  • ‭‭It reminds us that we have an enemy after us, but we can resist him if we stand firm in Christ. 1 Peter 5:8-9 says “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.” Satan is after us, as scary as that sounds. This section of 1 Peter 5 reminds us of that, but it reminds us that we can and should be sober minded and watchful, firm in our faith, and resist any kind of evil or temptations Satan tries to throw at us. Praise the Lord we have victory over the enemy in Him!
  • We are reminded that the things of this world fade but God’s word is forever. 1 Peter 1:24-25 says “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.” How awesome that the word we abide by is eternal. We even get to live in His goodness for all of eternity if we put our faith in Him. Let’s focus on Him and what truly matters, not on the things of this world that will one day fade away! This reminder really puts life into perspective.

So that’s going to be it y’all. There are so many other great things to take away from 1 Peter so you should read it for yourself. I just hope this blog helped to summarize just a few of the main messages in the book. Let me know if you have any questions or let me know anything you learned once you read it. I would love to hear from you!
